Ice cream anyone?

Look what I made for Emma:A cute little ice cream cone that will never melt!
I found the pattern for this at Lil Birdie Stitches
She has so many wonderful things that I want to try to create. Be sure to go take a look at her creative blog. I'm sure you'll spend lots of time there-just like me!

Projects, projects

We've had lots of time to do projects lately. My girls and I love any kind of sewing, arts and crafts, etc. Here's some of the things we've made lately:

First of all, Grace and Emma made brownies so we'd have plenty of energy!

Mary picked out the cutest sundress pattern along with some beautiful fabric. She's busy working on that.I found this pretty mirror at the thrift store-it's looks even nicer painted white.Grace and Emma got these unfinished wooden boxes, basket and tray at Hobby Lobby. They had so much fun painting and decorating them.

I whipped up some very simple muslin tableclothes for the 3 tables at the barn.

Here's one of Grace's finished projects. She uses it to keep books in by her bed.

Keeping Cool

I can't believe it's been so long since I've blogged. I thought things would slow down when we finished school, but it's been busier than ever-lots of fun stuff! First off, we're living in the water! LOL! It's already so hot here. In the next few days I'll try to catch up here and show you all the other fun things we've been doing.

Adorable Aprons

I love a good deal! The girls and I went to Target the other night and found the most adorable aprons in the $1/$2.50 aisle. I've been meaning to sew aprons for us but never got around to it. For $2.50 I couldn't resist everyone getting a new apron (and saving me some time!). I did monogram our names on them (just so we wouldn't get them all mixed up).
When I got around to Emma's I decided to do something a little different. She is very tall for a 4 year old, but not tall enough for an adult size apron. I decided to shorten the waist ties and put button holes in each one.
I then criss-crossed them on her back and sewed buttons on the front to attach them.
Voila! A perfect apron for a petite chef! These would make great gifts too for Emma's little friends. Ohh, I think I might need to make another trip to Target soon!

Happy Mother's Day!

A Mother's Love

There are times when only a Mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a Mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a Mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a Mother's heart and a Mother's faith
And a Mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the Angels
And sent from God above...

Nature Study-up close

The other day the girls and I were out working in the yard. Mary was mowing, Grace potting some flowers and Emma and I raking. All of a sudden, Emma spotted something...a baby bird!

She had fallen from her nest way up high in our Magnolia tree. I know not to touch a baby bird, but she was walking straight into the street. We knew she's get hit by a car if we didn't move her back. The momma bird (btw, they are Blue Jays) was flying all around trying to check out her baby. Emma was so distressed (see her face in the pic above), worrying about the little bird.

This little one seemed pretty strong. I'd like to think it was able to survive. We haven't seen it anymore in the yard. It was special for all of us to get to see a beautiful little creature like this up close.

Blooming Gifts

Each year at the end of dance we always have such a hard time choosing gifts for each of the teachers. This year we had four teachers. I like the idea of getting them something they can truly use instead of just a dust catcher.
This year each girl picked out a plant for her teacher. I made cute luggage tags to tie around the pots that the girls chose. I think they turned out beautifully. Their sweet teachers loved them too!
